The international premier of the BMW i3 took place across three continents, and was featured live on YouTube.Eager fans tuned in to watch the action taking place in the megacities of London, New York and Beijing – a ceremony that paid homage to BMW’s longstanding reputation for excellence before finally unveiling the i3.
The BMW i3, which has been dubbed by BMW as the Megacity Vehicle was presented by Dr. Norbert Reithofer, chief executive officer at BMW, Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management and Global Head of BMW Group Design Adrian van Hooydonk – all of whom were on hand to give information about the groundbreaking technology and forward thinking ethos behind the new vehicle.
The new brand is set to lead the way in modern mobility using sustainable lightweight technologies that set a new bar in automotive manufacturing – a raise in standards that other manufacturers will no doubt be keen to try and match. This key fact has the possibility to make the i3 the car that changes the industry, which in turn makes the unveiling history in the making.
An official statement released with the video explained the ethos behind the concept, which has gone on to become a reality:
"BMW i stands for visionary electric cars and mobility services, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium that is strongly defined by sustainability... The BMW i3 with eDrive is an uncompromisingly sustainable vehicle designed for urban areas. Driven purely by electric power and purpose-built to meet the demands of sustainable and emission-free mobility. It embodies an intelligent form of urban transportation and commuting."
