The BMW 5 Series has been the quintessential mid-size saloon since the 1970s, and for six generations it has proven to be a market leader in reliability, comfort and performance.
Now, BMW has unveiled the latest version of the saloon model and it maintains the practical elements of the previous 5 Series but under a newly designed body that is both elegant and dynamic.
With increased dimensions, you have more personal and storage space, allowing for even more luxurious features to be crammed in to the latest model. This means more space to relax, and when you’re surrounded by high quality materials and accessories, that isn’t too difficult.
It comes with many technological features; such as gesture control – an optional extra – that can control the full infotainment system displayed on the 10.25-inch screen, which can also be controlled by the iDrive Controller, a head-up display feature that is 70 per cent larger than on the previous model and two-zone climate control. Other optional features include rear entertainment screens that can be connected to games consoles and USB devices and Harman Kardon 16-speaker sound system.
The 5 Series comes in the 530i, 540i xDrive, 520d and 530d guises, with xDrive available on the two diesel variants. Coming in March 2017, an electric version of the 5 Series will be released – the 530e iPerformance – which will offer a range of 28 miles.
As the 5 Series has advanced, so have its safety systems, and in this latest version, BMW has installed dynamic cruise control and speed limit assist, and optionally can add Driving Assistant Plus – which includes lane keeping assistant, lane departure warning and lane change warning.
The new 5 Series will be available to order from £36,025 OTR ahead of its February launch and for more information on the new model, contact your nearest Cooper BMW Centre.
