First launched in 1976, the 6 Series is a high end coupe and, despite a pause in production for 14 years, has been a key model for BMW when in service.
Starting out on the E24 chassis, the 6 Series was the replacement for the E9 coupés, such as the 2800CS and 3.0CSi, and was released with models such as the 635CSi that could get from 0-60 in 7.4 seconds.
Also created was the first M6, using the powertrain of the famous M1 supercar matched to the E24 chassis, which had a top speed of 158mph and improved brakes, suspension and a manual gearbox.
Since 2003, the 6 Series has been brought back into the BMW line-up and includes both the coupe and convertible versions in the range.
The first new 6 Series had a carbon fibre roof, direction adaptive headlights and the iDrive infotainment system, as well as the EfficientDynamics system that included regenerative braking and a twin-turbo engine to make it more efficient.
It also spawned the M6 Coupe and Cabriolet that had a 5-litre V10 engine with 500hp, launching it from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and up to a limited top speed of 155mph.
The current version was introduced in 2011 and after a facelift in 2015, looks as classy as ever. The 2012 version introduced the Gran Coupé, a five-door version of the coupé body type that offered more space on an extended wheelbase platform.
Three EfficientDynamics-engineered TwinPower engines are made for the 6 Series; an inline six-cylinder diesel, a six-cylinder petrol and a Turbocharged V8 petrol, and with BMW ConnectedDrive features such as a Head-up Display and Drive Assist Plus, you have the kit to perform and stay safe on the road, as well as an eight-speed Steptronic Sports automatic gearbox.
Both inside and out, the new 6 Series is designed superbly and with BMW Individual options to personalise your own car, with exclusive colours, alloy wheels and interior trim available to make your 6 Series your own. The 6 Series starts from £59,435, with the Gran Coupé at the same starting price, whilst the Cabriolet has a starting price of £65,335.
