M3 and M4 Competition PackageIt's fair to say that BMW didn't exactly bring the M3 and M4 to market short on performance, yet 2016 sees both receive an upgrade in that department.
The now well-established “Competition Package” treatment brings a variety of performance enhancing features and figure increases to both models.
At the heart of all of the enhancements, the 3.0 Twin Power Turbo straight six gets a power upgrade to 444hp (450PS) - from 425hp (431PS) - with the same 405lbft available. This reduces the 0-60mph sprint time by 0.1s.
The suspension system has been upgraded to include the Adaptive M Suspension as standard, with changes to the springs, damping and anti-roll bar. The Active M Differential and stability control are also modified and the selectable driving modes have been tweaked for the perfect M driving experience.
Other Competition Package updates focus on weight loss. The cars share the incredibly lightweight 20-inch forged wheels from the M4 GTS [link to Dec article?], albeit without the orange detailing, that save 7kg of unsprung weight, improving ride and handling. Lightweight M Sport seats are paired with belts woven with the classic M stripes.
To go with the visual impact of the new wheels, Competition Package also adds an extended BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line exterior trim and black chrome tailpipes. These complement the M Sports exhaust system, which adds a new depth to the car's sound even at idle speeds.
Competition Package is available as an optional upgrade on M3, M4 Coupe and M4 Convertible models. For more information on the M3 and M4 please follow these links:
