The all-electric BMW i3 has won the Auto Bild/Bild am Sonntag 'Golden Steering Wheel' award, three years after it won the 'Green Steering Wheel' award.
As the world’s first premium electric car, it won the Green award before it was even released, and since then it has only grown in stature.
Now in its 41st year, the Golden Steering Wheel has become one of the continent’s top automotive awards, and out of the 21 countries that vote on the award, all of them voted the i3 as the best in its category. Then after undergoing serious scrutiny from the group of judges, the i3 won in the ‘Alternative Drives’ category, which is the category’s first year for the awards.
The i3 is beginning to make up a large section of the BMW market share, thanks to its forward-looking design and excellent electric-only range over 180 miles, with more attainable thanks to a petrol-powered generator. The technology and know-how earned from making the ‘i’ range has led to the other models in the range improving also, as BMW implements new materials and techniques to make its cars better than ever.
