Find your perfect BMW

There’s a huge choice of cars in the BMW stable, covering a surprisingly broad range.

With a selection of more than 20 different models, your major problem may well be picking a single car to suit you, so how do you pick your perfect BMW?

Ultimately it depends on which criteria are the most important for you, but whatever they are – and even if there are multiple competing priorities - there is likely to be a BMW to suit!

BMW Perfect

As the winter months approach, you may be minded to look for a vehicle with four-wheel drive to give you a little more confidence with worsening road conditions. BMW offers a range of traditional four-wheel drive style vehicles, with the X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6 fitting the brief in a variety of sizes. The X4 and X6 can be considered coupe versions of the X3 and X5, to provide some style in addition to rugged looks.

The off-roader look may not appeal to all and there's plenty of the more conventional cars equipped with BMW's xDrive four-wheel drive system. xDrive is available on select models with the 20d diesel engine of the 1 Series and 2 Series, joined by the 20i petrol and 30d diesel also available with xDrive on the 3 Series and 4 Series.

If people-moving is your thing, then your ideal BMW is either the 2 Series Gran Tourer or the X5 with optional third row, depending on whether you’d prefer to move them around a town centre or to the deepest parts of the countryside! Each will hold 6 passengers in addition to the driver and comes with a range of engines offering either frugal motoring – there’s even a hybrid X5 – or a fleet turn of pace.

For the environmentally-conscious there's the BMW i3, which comes in either electric or range-extender hybrid versions. With 0g/km and 13g/km respectively these models are the lowest emission BMWs and as it’s a hatchback it will seat four and take 260 litres of luggage too. Of course there's also the hybrid sports car i8, which is slightly less practical with 154 litres of luggage space, but it still has four seats and will hit 60mph in just 4.4s. The official fuel economy is 134.5mpg too!

Your mind may not turn to open top motoring at this time of year, but there are plenty of options again with the Z4 convertible models of the 2 Series, 4 Series and 6 Series. If taking the top off doesn’t entice you, these are all available in coupe form instead – and furthermore as high performance M models. Whichever choice you make, they are the BMW for the style-conscious.

The core of BMW though is the saloon car and with the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series, your saloon needs are well catered for. The 3 Series is still the benchmark car in the family car class, as the 5 Series is in the executive car sector, while the 7 Series is perhaps the ultimate expression of BMW luxury and comfort. With the M3 the car other sport saloons try to match and the M5 as the consummate grand tourer, thrill-seekers need look no further either.

BMW truly is the brand for the car buyer who wants everything!
