The shortlist for one of the world’s most respected car awards has been revealed ahead of the awards ceremony this April.
10 finalists will contest the title of 2015 World Car of the Year including the brilliant BMW 2 Series Active Tourer – it’s not just the top award BMW are up for however with representatives from the Munich based firm present in every category.
The winner of the headline award will be chosen by a jury of 75 international motoring journalists who will vote via a secret ballot – the winning green car will be selected in part by a panel of green technology experts who have set the final shortlist of candidates based on their green credentials.
This year’s Green Car of the year Award shortlist includes the BMW i8, Hyundai x35, Kia Soul EV, Volvo XC90 and the Volkswagen Golf GTE.
BMW’s eco-friendly sportscar, the i8, is nominated in the Luxury Car and Green Car category whilst the BMW X6 crossover coupe has also made the list for the Luxury Car section.
The BMW M4 and M3 have also made it onto the list of possibles in the Performance Car category.
BMW’s i8 supercar was also recently named UK Car of the Year - the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor gives blistering acceleration and superior driver enjoyment yet still manages an incredible 135mpg whilst emitting just 49g/km of CO2.
The model is therefore exempt from both vehicle tax and the London congestion charge, which is part of the reason why it has been such a big hit with UK buyers, according to BMW.
Standard features include 20-inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and upholstery, plus an 8.8-inch multimedia display.
The most advanced sports car ever offered by BMW, the company says that the i8 represents the future of the supercar, with its blend of dynamics, design and exceptional performance.
