There was a time when driving a Sports Activity Vehicle, executive saloon or high performance roadster meant high fuel costs and high CO2 emissions.

Not any more. BMW has made it possible to enjoy both economical driving and impressive performance, thanks to BMW EfficientDynamics technologies and new high-precision injection engines.

The launch of the new BMW X1 sDrive20d EfficientDynamics in September means you can now enjoy the versatility of a Sports Activity Vehicle while lowering your road tax and fuel costs. The new 163hp diesel engine is capable of 0-62mph in just 8.3 seconds yet it achieves 62.8mpg (combined) and 119g/km CO2 emissions. As this falls below 120g/km, the new X1 is in VED band C so you pay no road tax in the first year and only £30 a year thereafter.

Following the success of the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon, the new 520d EfficientDynamics Saloon also launches in September. This will be the most efficient 5 Series ever, providing 184hp, 62.8mpg (combined) and only emitting 119g/km. Company car drivers will not only benefit from luxurious, spacious comfort and finish, they will also have the advantage of only 13% BIK. 

March 2012 sees the introduction of the first sub-100g/km BMW model with the arrival of the new BMW 116d EfficientDynamics to complement the new BMW 1 Series Sports Hatch range.

But BMW fuel-efficiency doesn't stop at diesel models. BMW is now introducing new BMW TwinPower four-cylinder, two-litre petrol engines that improve throttle response, increase torque and reduce fuel consumption and emissions even more.

These new engines can be seen in the new BMW Z4 sDrive20i and sDrive28i models, increasing efficiency by up to 21%.

They also feature in the new BMW 520i and 528i Saloon and Touring models, which now have more power than the six-cylinder models they replace - yet they are a full three tax bands lower!
