BMW has won What Car?’s coveted Green Award.
The respected motoring publication awarded BMW the accolade for its success in reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption with BMW EfficientDynamics technologies.
These technologies reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption while improving the car’s power and performance.
EfficientDynamics pioneers the use of lightweight materials to achieve significant weight reduction, and the development of advanced engine technologies to create fuel-efficient, better performing cars. For example, Auto Start-Stop is a fuel-saving feature that automatically stops the engine when the car is idling then restarts when you depress the clutch.
Thanks to EfficientDynamics, the BMW 118d achieves an impressive 62.8 mpg on the combined cycle and a CO2 emissions figure of 119 g/km. This puts it into Band B for Vehicle Excise Duty and brings the benefit-in-kind tax rating down to 18 per cent.
From October 2008 the 118d will also benefit from a 100 per cent discount from the London Congestion Charge, to claim the discount you need to register with TfL and pay a small annual fee.
